Clearing a hedge and lifting an old patio can look like one garden job, but the loads differ. Cuttings take up room; paving and soil add weight quickly. Describe the materials separately so we can discuss a suitable skip rather than simply moving up to the largest size.

The 2 and 4 yard options can suit modest clear-outs, while 6 or 8 yards offer more room for agreed renovation waste. Larger light-waste containers are also listed below. Their extra space does not make them appropriate for a full load of garden soil or slabs.
Measurements vary between skips. The lorry needs extra room, and bag or volume estimates do not set a weight allowance.

Tell us about soil still attached to roots or piled in heavy bags. The amount of space a bag occupies does not show its weight. Keep fuels, paint, tyres and gas cylinders separate, even if they have been stored in the garage for years.
Keep asbestos, paint, oils, fuels, batteries, gas cylinders and electrical items out of a general waste skip. Agree plasterboard, mattresses and carpets separately.

Can I mix patio slabs and hedge cuttings?
Explain both before booking. The heavy part of the load may decide the size and allowance, even when the cuttings take more room. Do not fill a large skip with slabs without agreement.
Can the skip block the garage while I clear it?
Plan a position that lets you remove the remaining items safely and leaves access for collection. Tell us if the garage door or a shared route would be obstructed.
What if the garden job takes longer than expected?
Call before the agreed hire period ends. Longer hire and any extra charge need to be agreed; the usual period is up to seven days unless your booking says otherwise.
