Old paving and hedge cuttings need different space
For landscaping at home, describe the hard materials as well as the green waste. Soil, broken slabs and brick can reach a weight limit before a skip looks full. Hedge cuttings and light timber may need more volume without the same weight.

| Size | Typical use | Approx. L × W × H |
|---|---|---|
| 2 yard | Small clear-outs & garden jobs | 1.5m × 1.2m × 0.9m |
| 4 yard | Room clear-outs & bathroom refits | 2.1m × 1.5m × 0.9m |
| 6 yard | Renovations & bigger DIY jobs | 3.0m × 1.5m × 1.2m |
| 8 yard | Building work & bulky clear-outs | 3.6m × 1.8m × 1.4m |
| 14 yard | Bulky, lighter clear-out waste | 4.27m × 2.0m × 1.83m |
| 20 yard | Larger premises & site clear-outs | 5.59m × 2.65m × 1.17m |
| 40 yard | Large volumes of light waste | 6.0m × 2.4m × 2.68m |
A 2 or 4 yard skip can be a practical starting point for a smaller job; a renovation may need a 6 or 8 yard option. The larger 14 to 40 yard choices are for suitable light-waste jobs and access. Let the contents decide rather than the largest size you can park outside.
Measurements vary between skips. The lorry needs extra room, and bag or volume estimates do not set a weight allowance.

Agree the entrance off Stirling Street or a side road
Stirling Street forms part of the A91 through Alva. If delivery involves a property on that frontage, describe the entrance and proposed skip position while booking. For a side-road address, include any shared drive, narrow opening or space needed by other residents.
- Check the ground usedTell us if the position is paving, gravel or another surface affected by a heavy load.
- Leave room beside the skipYou need a safe way to carry the waste without obstructing a public path.
- Keep the return visit possibleNew garden materials must leave the collection vehicle a clear approach.
Road permission in Alva
Alva road and footway positions require the relevant Clackmannanshire roads-authority permission before the skip is delivered.
Clackmannanshire Council skip guidanceA quote that allows for the heavy part of the job
Have a rough list of slabs, soil, timber or household items ready. We agree the load, size and hire length before delivery. Confirm VAT, collection, any road permit and the cost of another skip if the project is likely to need more than one load.
We deliver to the agreed position. You fill the skip, then call to arrange collection.
What from the garden or DIY job can go in?
Agree plant waste, old wood and ordinary non-hazardous rubbish with us at booking. Keep heavier piles identifiable instead of hiding them under lighter cuttings. This helps the skip match the job and keeps the collection within the agreed loading limits.
- Short branches and cuttings from the garden
- Old wood and packaging from DIY work
- Paving, brick or soil within a specifically agreed load
Do not use a general skip for asbestos, chemicals, gas cylinders or batteries. If old panels or stored products turn up during a shed or garden clearance, keep them separate until you know what they are and how they should be handled.
Keep asbestos, paint, oils, fuels, batteries, gas cylinders and electrical items out of a general waste skip. Agree plasterboard, mattresses and carpets separately.

Can I fill the skip with soil from a raised bed?
Tell us the amount before ordering. Soil is heavy, and a skip’s quoted cubic-yard size does not set the weight allowance. The load and suitable container must be agreed first.
Can the skip stand on Stirling Street?
Only if the precise position is suitable and the required roads permission is in place. Describe the frontage before agreeing a delivery rather than relying on a parking space being free.
What happens if I have more rubble than expected?
Stop before overfilling and call about the remaining waste. Another paid load may be needed. Do not add boards to the sides or use spare volume in a larger skip as an unlimited heavy-load allowance.
