Choose space for the waste, not just the driveway
For a room-by-room refit, include the old cupboards, packaging and loose materials that will appear as work progresses. A small skip can fill quickly with bulky panels even when the load is light. The 4, 6 and 8 yard options are worth comparing for this kind of job.

| Size | Typical use | Approx. L × W × H |
|---|---|---|
| 2 yard | Small clear-outs & garden jobs | 1.5m × 1.2m × 0.9m |
| 4 yard | Room clear-outs & bathroom refits | 2.1m × 1.5m × 0.9m |
| 6 yard | Renovations & bigger DIY jobs | 3.0m × 1.5m × 1.2m |
| 8 yard | Building work & bulky clear-outs | 3.6m × 1.8m × 1.4m |
| 14 yard | Bulky, lighter clear-out waste | 4.27m × 2.0m × 1.83m |
| 20 yard | Larger premises & site clear-outs | 5.59m × 2.65m × 1.17m |
| 40 yard | Large volumes of light waste | 6.0m × 2.4m × 2.68m |
If you are only removing a modest amount of garden waste, a 2 yard skip may be enough. Larger 14 to 40 yard options are for agreed bulky, lighter loads and suitable premises. The table gives the full choice without treating a larger skip as the answer to every clear-out.
Measurements vary between skips. The lorry needs extra room, and bag or volume estimates do not set a weight allowance.

Plan around shared drives and street frontage
Bridge of Allan has a designated conservation area. For a property near Henderson Street or a house reached through shared access, describe the actual entrance when you call. We need the delivery position, rather than assuming every address has room beside the house.
- Leave a route throughKeep the front door and any neighbour’s access usable during the hire.
- Allow for placementThe delivery lorry needs more room than the skip’s outside measurements.
- Keep collection possibleAvoid planning another delivery into the space the lorry will need later.
Road permission in Bridge of Allan
A public-road position needs roads-authority permission. We check the intended spot before a road delivery is booked.
Stirling Council skip guidanceA quote for your refit and your access
Give us the rooms involved, likely waste and the dates your tradespeople will be working. We can help choose the skip and agree delivery and collection. Ask for the full total including VAT, the hire period and any permission or additional charges.
We deliver to the agreed position. You fill the skip, then call to arrange collection.
Keep the refit waste easy to sort
Cupboards, timber and empty packaging can usually be discussed as part of a general waste load. A refit may also uncover materials that need separate handling. Let us know about those before filling starts, rather than putting everything together.
- Dismantled wooden units and short timber
- Cardboard and ordinary non-hazardous packaging
- Garden cuttings from an agreed tidy-up
Old appliances need their own disposal arrangement. Plasterboard, carpets and upholstered items should be raised while booking. If the job changes after the skip arrives, call before adding a different material.
Keep asbestos, paint, oils, fuels, batteries, gas cylinders and electrical items out of a general waste skip. Agree plasterboard, mattresses and carpets separately.

Can I put a skip on a shared driveway?
The position must be agreed with the people entitled to use it. Explain the shared access and leave enough room for everyday use. We still need to check the surface and the delivery vehicle’s approach.
What if there is only on-street space?
Tell us the street and the proposed position before setting a delivery date. Parking availability does not itself give permission to leave a skip. The necessary road arrangements need to be in place first.
Can I add a mattress at the end of the clear-out?
Mention it before booking. A mattress or upholstered item may need different handling and an extra charge; it is not automatically included because there is room left.
